Botanical name: Quercus spp. The white oaks are also found in abundance in the eastern half of the United States and comprise several species: White Oak (Quercus alba), Swamp white oak (Q. bicolor), Chestnut oak (Q. prinus), Swamp chestnut oak (Q. michauxii), Chinkapin oak (Q. muehlenbergii), Overcup Oak (Q. lyrata), and Post oak (Q. stellata). All of the white oaks are heavy, very hard and strong. The rays are more pronounced and longer than in Red Oak.
